UNESCO Reports
SEPN has conducted several studies commissioned by UNESCO, the UNFCCC, and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO. Several of the studies have examined country-level responses to the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, specifically on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4, 13, and 12. The projects are also providing insight into how countries are advancing holistic approaches to learning through Education for Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship Education, and Climate Change Education.
These studies have made a considerable impact. For example, the 2019 UNESCO Forum on Education for Peace and Sustainability in Hanoi, Vietnam was based off the Educational Content Up Close report, which SEPN co-authored with Dr. Aaron Benavot and Networking to Integrate SDG Target 4.7 and SEL Skills into Educational Materials (NISSEM). The study, Learn for Our Planet, informed the development of the Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development. The UNFCCC has engaged also with SEPN’s recommendations for improving country submissions, including at the 7th Dialogue on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) in 2019 and the ACE Expert Group meeting in 2021.
